Thermal Strain
Strain induced in a material due to a change in temperature.
Thermal Strain (ε) = α × ΔT
Thermal strain occurs when a material expands or contracts due to temperature changes. It depends on the material’s coefficient of linear expansion and the magnitude of temperature rise or fall.
Where:
ε = thermal strain
α = coefficient of linear expansion
ΔT = temperature change
The formula is:
ε = α × ΔT
A higher value of α means the material experiences more strain for the same temperature change.
