Young’s Modulus of Elasticity
A measure of the rigidity of a material. It expresses how much a material resists deformation under stress.
Young's Modulus (E) = Stress / Strain
E = σ / ε
Young’s modulus of elasticity defines the stiffness of a solid material. It is the ratio of stress (force per unit area) to strain (relative deformation) within the elastic region of the material. A higher Young’s modulus indicates a stiffer material that deforms less under applied load.
Formula:
Stress (σ) = Force / Area
Strain (ε) = Change in Length / Original Length
Therefore,
E = σ / ε
